Job Roles - Stage Crew ( What I need to achieve in order to be the most successful I can be in my job role)
In my role as part of the stage crew there are many things I need to do in order to be successful and efficient. For example:
1. I will attempt to work with the ASM to create a pre show check-list that will be through and will ensure that everything is to the highest standard it can be before the show starts. This will help to ensure that the show runs smoothly. I attempted to develop this idea by creating a draft of the check-list and sending it to the ASM so he could check it and develop it with the SM. I then asked the SM to delegate jobs to the crew on each night to make sure everything was done.
2. I will also try and help with stage props and hand props in any way I can to make sure that everyone had what they need to certify that their is full continuity throughout the show. I realised this idea by helping to writ a props que list during the tech rehearsal as the Props Master was unable to attend the tech. This allowed for no time to be wasted and for things to fall behind which would have hindered the efficiency of the props table and stage props.
3. I will also try to be part of a stage crew that has the highest level of comradery and communication to provide a strong backbone to any of the shows problems or faults. I realised this by helping out every member of the crew of anyone was absent or was unable to attend, I also made sure that everyone felt they knew what their job entailed and was able to have something to do at all times when the SM or ASM was detained in another job. I however did this in a supportive manor to ensure that everyone felt happy and comfortable in their role this ensured that their was no misunderstandings or arguments which would have deteriorated the efficiency of the stage crew.
4. I will also try to be on hand for costume changes as I have read in the script that their are many. For example after the ensemble has sung another one bites the dust they have to change from their black costumes into their bohemian ones in 30 seconds. I will try to help with this the best I can so that this very quick change is possible. I realised this by being asked by the Costume manager to help a member of the cast during the costume change from the blacks to the bohemian costumes as their costume was particularly tricky to get on in time and which meant that on the first night she was late for her que, but after I helped her on the last two nights she was able to get their in enough time.
5. I will also try to take the initiative if someone is absent or busy I will try and help them with their job role as best as I can as it is part of the stage crews requirements to be as helpful as possible. This will make sure that everything is prepared and ready on time. I realised this by always asking the SM if anything was needing to be done but also taking the initiative and sorting out anything that needed to be done. For example I checked over all of the spaces to make sure they were clean, I helped the Props Master with any missing props and collected props after the show if they had not been returned to the props table. I also helped clean the hall way and stairs when I child was sick. I did this as quickly as possible to make sure there was no delay in the show.

Team Role List
This is the hierarchical structure of our production of We Will Rock You. Generally all of the people in the Production crew must work together and communicate efficiently to ensure that the show runs smoothly, however during our production specific people or groups had to work together to ensure that each stage of the show was as organised and efficient as possible. For example;
1. During pre show before the audience are shown to the bar or settled in to their seats, the SM must communicate to the FOH Manager that the house is ready to let the audience in to find their seats while the FOH then needs to tell the SM when all the audience are in their seats so that they can give the signal to start the show.
2. The costume manager also needed to enlist the help of the stage crew. For example they asked myself to help with quick costume changes. This was to allow 2 or more people at the same time to have help with getting changed so they were not late for the next scene.
3. The crew also needed to work with the ASM and the SM. The SM relayed what was needed to be checked (prier to the show starting) to the ASM, the crew then worked with the ASM to produce the check list. This communication made for a very through and efficient check-list.

Job Role Analysis: Picture evidence
1. On the day of the tech rehearsal I had to step in for the props manager as they had an exam. I started to make a props list in order to give the PM a clearer view of what order the props should go into. However half way through this I had to stop so I gave the list to a crew member and the lighting designer so they could carry on. This communication and independent responsibility is essential in the role of the stage crew, it ensures that the show will run smoothly through any of the stages of the show from Pre show to get out even if someone is absent.
2.
3. This is a picture of me confirming the pre show check list with the SM on coms. This part of my job is necessary to assure that everything is correct and that if the SM want's to add anything else that needs to be checked.
2.
These are the final pre show check-list that the stage crew used before each show to check that everything was ready. The ASM delegated jobs to each member of the stage crew to ensure that everything was done. Everyone signed the first nights check-list to make sure that we all agreed that these were all the things that needed to be checked. On the following nights we got the SM and the ASM to sign the check list to confirm that everything was ready to the highest standard possible.

Job Role Evaluation: Overall Show
Tech Rehearsal:
Cons:
1. During the day of the tech rehearsal we ran over on rehearsal, this could have been avoided if people had stayed later.
2. We overloaded the dimmers; this meant that the trip switch kept tripping. Next time we could have ignored where the lights were and tried to use more cable to plug the lights in to all 3 dimmer packs evenly. Another cause of this was that there was not enough cables, so in the planning stage the Lighting Designer should consider the amount of cables needed before rigging too place.
3. The tech rehearsal also had delays because the cast had to stop allot to take out piercings and change clothes. This could have been avoided if the cast came to the tech rehearsal in full costume.
4. The cast should also consider that this rehearsal is a tech rehearsal and the placements of the lights are important to achieve the full aesthetics of the performance. We found because the blocking for the numbers was very varied that once it came to the next run, the lighting had to be changed. It is a lengthy process and the LX crew must see all variations of the positions of the cast so we can avoid the lighting having to be redone.
Tickets:
5. We also need to reconsider the ticketing method as some people came on different nights. The wrist bands we used for tickets were all the same colour however they had the day on them but this proved difficult to stop and check and people were walking in too flast and flashing their wrist band instead of having it checked. This could be avoided if we have a different colour for each night.
Tickets/ seating:
Pros:
1. We also chose to tell the audience before they came in to fill up the seats from the middle outwards this avoided parties of 2 or more people from being split up and left over seats being scattered around the seating area.
2. We also decided to use the radio system to let the FOH Manager make any announcements to the audience. However this proved in effective as the audience talked over the tannoy and did not realise there was an announcement. This could have been avoided if we had a musical piece before the announcement to introduce the message and make sure people hear it.
3. Even though the doors of the set were slightly broken and they were difficult to use, Jordan and Sophie the ASM and a member of the crew felt the smoothness and fluency of the doors progressed over the last two nights. For example the QLab and Projection operator found that from the front they looked smoother each night.
4. The checklists that I drafted and then the ASM redrafted and approved was also very helpful for many of the crew and operators. The Lighting operator felt that the Lighting checklist helped remind her of the desks functions. I also felt that the crews checklist was well executed each night pre show as it helped remind me of all the small things that needed to be checked, for example the rubbish under the seats. The check lists also helped the crew be more independent and self efficient, it let the technician and teachers feel able to leave the students to run the show with very few questions or mishaps.

Job Role Evaluation: Stage Crew
Cons:
1. Julies office door was locked. This meant that the performers could not get through this could have been avoided if the crew could keep the key for the office. However for the last two performances we did have the key. Communication between the front of house and the crew could have been better in order to avoide this further.
2. The doors did not work as they kept coming off the hinges. This meant that the doors had to be lifted and then slid which made the show lack smoothness in terms of how slick the doors slid open. This could have been avoided if the door could have been fixed.
3. Performers were late for ques. For example this meant that when the doors were shut one or more people were running to stop the doors from closing thus loosing fluency and smoothness in the show. This could have been avoided if there were one or more runners.
4. Performers did not know who to turn too if they had a certain problem. For example a member of the front of house crew were asked to fix a prop/costume item. This could have been avoided if there was a cast and crew meeting to introduce each person and what their role was.
5. Glasses and canes kept breaking. Crew/ props management should have been more forcefull with their instructions to the cast. The cast should not have had the props before they needed them.
6. Also on the first night one of the cast was not able to get on stage in enough time as they had a very quick change. This could have been avoided if we had more than one dresser/costume management as the one we did have was dressing someone on stage left while someone back stage needed help. However on the last two nights after being asked by the one dresser to help I did help the cast member get dressed.
Pros:
1. Pre show Checklist helped make sure that we did not forget the small things to check for, like cleaning rubbish of the rostra or checking that all props are were they should be. The jobs were also very well deligated by Jordan P.S (the ASM) which ment that the crew knew exactly what jobs they had to do.
2. All crew were also very efficiant in preparing all props and ques. The rock, bike and beds were all prepared very well and got on stage at the right time.
3. The ASM also made a que sheet for the doors which made the ques more efficiant and smooth. Instead of the crew having to look through the gap in the doors and guessing when they were needed to be opened and closed.
4. The crew and the SM had very good communication skills. For example the cast call was on time every night and if there were any problems with the smoke the SM could ask a member of the crew to go and turn the smoke levels down or up.
5. Even though the props kept breaking e.g white sunglasses and the tops of the canes the props manager fixed them very quickly and efficiantly.
